The One Thing I Wish You Knew

The one thing that I wish you would know, believe, understand, and absorb into the innermost parts of you, is that you’re already who you need to be. I know you may be shaking your head but I’m serious. You are valuable, talented, gifted, and skilled. These are not meaningless words. I do hope they make you feel better, but they're also true. I’m serious.

Therapy is not about helping you to become new and improved, 2.0 (insert name here). Therapy is about the improvement of your intrapersonal relationship, which is the relationship that you have with yourself. This is one of the most important relationships in your life. You don’t become a new person on your healing journey, but you can decrease the space that exists between who you are and who you think you’re supposed to be.

But at the end of the day, you are still you. What you do and who you are, are two separate things. You are valuable, talented, gifted, and skilled even though you may be petty sometimes. You may yell, react, procrastinate, get jealous, offend, be offended, or drag yourself through the mud so you don’t have to worry about someone else doing it. You may not have the career you want, failed the test, book flopped, business went under, marketing failed, or relationship failed.

No matter what you did or how you failed or where you're supposed to be

You are still valuable, talented, gifted, and skilled.

And don’t you EVER forget it.

Let's normalize our identity not being rooted in external accomplishments.
